Details of Special Events

In February we have four special events scheduled for Rotarians, wives, husbands and partners, and we would like to give you advance notice of them now so you can put them in your diary.

  • Event One: Boat Trip. On Sunday 12 February members and partners are invited to see Wellington Harbour from a different viewpoint. Rotarians Nigel Gould and Robert Fisher will each host a group on their yacht and launch respectively. You just choose which mode of transport appeals most, and bring along your sea legs and your lunch. The trip will begin at 12.00pm and you will be back at the wharf at 4.00pm, hopefully having also had the chance to do a spot of fishing. If you are interested in taking part in this initiative please contact either Robert Fisher on butterfish@clear.net.nz ; ph 027496382 or Peter McLaren on peterm@mclaren.co.nz
  • Event Two: Historical Walk . On Sunday 26 February Rotarian George Fairbairn will put on his Tour Guide hat and take members and partners on a walking tour of Wellington. George is an experienced guide who regularly conducts tour parties around the central business district explaining the history of Wellington. The Tour will begin at the Civic Square at 9.30am and end at Old St Paul’s at 11.30am, so plan now to put on your walking shoes and join in the fun. The tour will be followed by a brunch at which all walkers will be welcome. If you would like to come to the brunch please mention this when you register your interest in the tour. Registrations for the tour and brunch should be notified to Donna Dentice at donna.dentice@xtra.co.nz.
  • Event Three: Brunch Following the Historical Tour on Sunday 26 February a brunch will be held at a location yet to be decided, but probably near Old St Pauls. Members and partners will be welcome to attend this brunch whether they have taken the tour or not. Brunches are a really good way to get to know new members of the Club, and to renew acquaintance with those you are already familiar with. Murray Milner is taking registrations for the brunch on murray.milner@xtra.co.nz. and he will advise the location nearer the date.
  • Event Four: New Zealand International Festival of the Arts: The Wild Bride The International Festival of the Arts is something we all look forward to. Held in Wellington every second year it is a real celebration of the performing and visual arts. Rotarian, Sue Paterson, is Executive Director of the Festival and she has chosen a special performance event, The Wild Bride, as our Rotary event. The Wild Bride is ‘a rollercoaster ride of emotion – theatre and dance lashed with devilish humour and set to a live score of blues and bluegrass music’. Rotarians wishing to attend this performance at 7.00pm in the Opera House on Monday 27 February should book their seats in the circle through the normal channels. Sue will arrange for drinks to be served at half time in a roped off area on the first floor. There will be a small charge for this added to your Rotary account but Sue has yet to determine the exact amount. However, please don’t let this stop you from booking your tickets and registering your attendance with Donna Dentice donna.dentice@xtra.co.nz, also indicating how many people will be in your party.

The Fellowship Committee of the Rotary Club of Wellington is very keen to get the year off with a bang, and we hope that as many Rotarians as possible will register for one or more of the events on offer.
