Great RCW turnout at special meeting for RI President Klinginsmith

Tuesday, 24 August 2010

A great group of RCW members turned out to the special meeting held on Monday night in honour of RI President Ray Klinginsmith.

RCW joined the Rotary Club of Port Nicholson, presided over by former RCW member Mark Pickering, to host the event in the Ilott Theatre at the Wellington Town Hall.

RCW member, Mayor Kerry Prendergast, hosted a reception for RI President Ray whowas accompanied by a plethora of Rotary NZ leaders and also leaders from District 9940.

District Governor Howard Tong has given extensive coverage of Ray Klinginsmith's visit to Wellington on his blog.

The central theme of the evenings procveedings was Rotary doing things better. Being "bigger, bolder and better".

RI President Ray noted that New Zealand Rotary had led the world in Rotary members per capita population in previous years but had fallen off more recently. He challenged Wellington Rotarians to re-examine how their clubs worked and to be open to new ideas which would make Rotary more attractive to new recruits.

A notable feature of the evening was the award of Sapphire Pins to their Paul Harris Awards for Port Nicholson member Ian Patterson and RCW member William Sommerville.  See the separate story on this site.
