Wednesday, 18 January 2012Just before Christmas Ilott family descendant Shona Brown and her husband John came back to Wellington from the UK to inter the ashes of her mother, Suzanne McKellar in the family burial plot. The opportunity was taken to renew relationships betyween the Rotary Club of Wellington and the family.
President James received the following email from Shona Brown after she returned home to England.
Dear James and Marion
We are now home again in England and life is getting back to normal.
John and I would like to thank you for laying on the very enjoyable tea for us and having the chance to meet many of the people administrating the Ilott charitable trust. It is so nice to be able to place some faces to names and it was particularly good to meet both of you.
It really meant a lot to me to hear the speech about my Uncle Jack.
The interment of Mum’s ashes went well and I am sure that was exactly what Mum wanted.
On our last day in Wellington Rowena drove me round the bays, the sun was shining and Wellington looked its best. What a lovely city it is!
We enjoyed our time up north. Highlights were taking the ferry to Devonport in Auckland, the Waitangi treaty grounds and Christmas at Cable Bay.
Thailand was interesting because it was so different, very beautiful but I couldn’t believe the number of tourists even though we were on quite a remote island.
As you know the family want to keep in touch with what is happening with the charitable trust and I look forward to hearing from you in due course.
Best wishes, Shona
